(The PS2 version also draws power from the USB port on the front of the console.) The pad was immediately recognized by XP Pro. The controller draws all power from the USB port it does not need batteries. The tops are slightly convex with octagon rubber ribbing for grip. The sticks look like a combination of the Sony sticks and the GameCube main analog stick. The buttons in the middle area of the pad look like pause/select buttons, but are totally normal. You end up with 13 programmable buttons, two sticks, and the D-pad. This is as good a configuration for any system and works well with PC. Nyko kept somewhat close to the Dual Shock 2 template for the control layout. The rubber material is stiff enough to provide structural integrity, but soft enough to offer good grip. They are crosshatched to let air flow through. Those black areas are thick rubber slabs fixed in cutouts in the plastic body. Instead of simply punching holes in the plastic body, Nyko installed rubber panels on the insides and outsides of the handles. However, in hand the controller is very comfortable and much lighter than you’d expect considering the amount of features. In order to pump air through the controller there has to be plenty of room inside. If it looks a little chubby that’s because it is.

In terms of design, the PC model is the same as the EX. If that one thing appeals to you, then you will love it. For the same money you can buy a superior controller. However, if this isn’t an issue for you, then invest in something else. That said, I have the same attitude toward the PC version as I do toward its console counterpart: If you have sweaty hands and this sounds like a good solution, then buy one ASAP. As you can see in the pics, it is really just the Air Flo EX with a USB interface. It is simple enough to implement and the cooling is very effective. (The Air Flo mouse was also in the box, so look for a review soon.) I think it’s a good idea for the company to share this technology with the PC market. It is also the first PC device I’ve seen from the company. This is the first Air Flo controller I’ve reviewed since the EX for PS2 back in June. Nyko also put smiles on the faces of thousands of teenaged (either chronologically or spiritually) boys at E3 with its squadron of redhead beauties. Aimed at gamers who aren’t looking for a complicated wireless network, the Net Extender will get you online quickly and easily. The company also recently unveiled the Wireless Net Extender, which is an easy to use wireless (RF) networking device. The Air Flo family has grown to include a PC mouse, this PC controller, and a wireless model for the PS2.
